What is not surrounded by uncertainty, cannot be the truth.

----Richard P. Feynman

We are always ready to watch a theory fall under the imapct of new data, but we do not expect a great and influential theory to collapse from logical error in its formulation. Virtually every empirical scientist has a touch of the Philistine. Scientists tend to ignore academic philosophy as an empty pursuit.

Stephen Jay Gould, Ever Since Darwin p. 40

This is the area of Symphonia Loci Amoeni I was working on when the news showed the faces of the fighter pilots who had been captured by the Iraqi's in the first Gulf War. It was the memory of these faces each time I looked at this part of the painting which began my understanding of how and why this happens so intensely when painting in tight detail. Later I would fold the process together with the sight that prompted a trigger toward a painting and then into the painting. Alpha Waves and Theta Waves...very slow, meditative, calm brain waves that make learning easiest and make our minds more open to suggestion.
